比較級の使い方と例文

今回は”比較”の文章
について解説していきます。

比較級

比較の文では形容詞や副詞を
比較級という形にして使います。

いくつかルールがあるので
覚えておきましょう

☆短い形容詞/副詞は…

・最後にerをつける
・yで終わる場合はyをiにかえてerをつける
・eで終わる場合はそのままrをつける
・子音＋母音＋子音の場合は
最後の文字を重ねてerをつける

そのままrをつける	large nice	larger nicer
最後の文字を重ねてer	big hot	bigger hotter

☆長い形容詞は…

・原形のまま”more”をつける
(基本的には3音節以上のもの)

☆不規則に変化する単語
-erの形ではないので注意しましょう。

用法①もっと～な

比較級のプレーンな使い方です。

We need a bigger house.
(私たちはもっと大きい家が必要だ)
He practiced harder.
(彼はもっと熱心に練習した)
You should have less sugar.
(もっと砂糖を控えるべきだよ)
Your actions made things worse.
(君の行動が事態を悪化させたんだ)

用法②AはBよりも～だ

2つの物を比べるときは
thanをセットで使います。

・比較級＋than

She is younger than me.
(彼女は私よりも若い)
He finished his work earlier than usual.
（彼はいつもより早く仕事を終えた）
This test is more difficult than the last one.
(このテストは前回のよりも難しい)

否定文

notを使って
“○○よりも～でない”という意味になります。

又はless＋原形を使った表現も
使えます。

not ＋比較級＋than
＝less＋原形＋than

Cactus don’t need as much water than other plants.
＝Cactus needs less water than other plants.
(サボテンは他の植物よりも水分を必要としない)
The car isn’t more expensive than mine.
=The car is less expensive than mine.
(この車は私のより高くない)
She isn’t more intelligent than him.
=She is less intelligent than him.
(彼女は彼よりも賢くない)

疑問文

Is the Pacific Ocean deeper than the Arctic Ocean?
(太平洋は大西洋よりも深いですか？)
Which language is more difficult to learn, English or Chinese?
(英語と中国語ではどちらがより難しいですか？)
Does SNS make the world better or worse ?
(snsは世界を良くしますか？悪くしますか？)

用法③断然/少しだけ～だ

“ダントツで”のような
強調の意味を加える場合は
以下の単語が使えます。

・much ・by far ・even	断然、はるかに
・a little ・a bit ・a little bit	少しだけ

The problem was even more complicated than I thought.
(その問題は思っていたよりももっと複雑だった)
Hokkaido is farther from Okinawa than Tokyo by far.
(沖縄から北海道までは東京までよりはるかに遠い)
Today is a little colder than yesterday.
(昨日より少し寒いね)

用法④いくつ多い/少ない

具体的にいくつ多い/少ない
という場合は
数字のあとに比較級を続けます。

・具体的な数字＋比較級

It was held 30minutes earlier than planned.
(予定よりも30分早く開催された)
His wife is 10 years younger than him.
(彼の奥さんは彼より10歳も若い)
Cost of living here is about 5% cheaper than I expected.
(ここでの生活費は予想していたよりも5パーセントほど安い)

用法⑤BというよりむしろA

1つの主語について
～というよりはむしろ○○という場合は
more＋原形とthanを使います。

・more A than B

It is more hot than warm today.
(今日は暖かいというより暑いね)
This movie is more grotesque than scary.
(この映画は怖いというよりグロテスクだ)
She is more cute than beautiful.
(彼女は美人というよりもかわいらしい)

erをつける形容詞/副詞も
more＋原形となります！

用法⑥どんどん～する

比較級とandを使って
程度が増加していく様子を表します。

・比較級＋and＋比較級
長い形容詞は
・more and more ＋原形

The balloon got bigger and bigger.
(風船はどんどん大きくなった)
She is getting more and more famous.
(彼女はますます有名になっていってく)
Grandfather is looking older and older.
(祖父はどんどん年老いていく)

用法⑦～すればするほどますます…する

何かに比例して
程度が増加していく様子を表します。

・the 比較級～, the 比較級…

The faster you drive, the more dangerous it is.
(車のスピードを出せば出すほどますます危険になる)
The higher they climbed, the colder it got.
(高く上るにつれて寒くなっていった)
The more you have, the more you want.
（手に入れるほどもっと欲しくなる)
The older we become, the shorter we feel a day.
(年をとるほど一日が短く感じる)

用法⑧同じくらい

同じくらいの程度の
2つを比べる際は
比較級ではなくas…asを用います。

・as 原形 as

否定文はnotもしくはlessを使う

The girl looks as old as my sister.
(あの子は私の妹と同い年くらいにみえる)
This strawberry is as tasty as the rich strawberry.
(このイチゴは高級なものと同じくらいおいしい)
You should buy as much as necessary.
（必要な分だけ買いなさい）
This not is not as interesting as I thought.
＝This movie is less interesting than I thought”
(この映画は思っていたよりもおもしろくない)
His second picture isn’t as famous as the first one.
=HIs second picture is less famous than first one.
(彼の2番目の絵は最初の作品ほど有名ではない)
His grade was not as good as their parents had hoped.
=His grade was less than his parents had hoped.
(彼の成績は両親が望んでいたほどよくはなかった)
Could you tell me the reason as detailed as possible?
(できるだけ詳しく教えてもらえますか？)
